Houston Summer Surveillance: Heat-Related Illness (HRI) & Heat-Exacerbated Health Monitoring

The Houston Health Department (HHD) is tracking how extreme heat affects health, with a focus on Heat-Related Illnesses (HRIs). HRIs happen when people can't cool down due to high temperatures and lack of shade or water. Other health conditions may be worsened, or exacerbated, by extreme heat. This interactive dashboard tracks temperature and health data in the Houston area (primarily Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery counties) and can be used to identify vulnerable populations and formulate interventions to protect our community from extreme heat events.

The Houston Summer Surveillance dashboard updates weekly on Wednesdays at 2:00 am during the months of May through September.

Note: Due to data lags and updates to patient records, the data in this dashboard are subject to change.
