Community Health Services, Disease Prevention and Control Division
The Community Health Services (CHS) and Disease Prevention and Control Division (DPCD) protect and promote public health in Houston through essential programs and services. They prevent and manage infectious diseases via Tuberculosis and HIV/STI testing, treatment, and education, provide dental care, and support children’s vision through the See to Succeed program. Immunization initiatives expand vaccine access for all ages, while Health Centers and Multi-Service Centers serve as neighborhood hubs offering affordable medical care, social services, and health programs.

Family Health and Human Services Division
The Family Health and Human Services Division supports the health and well-being of Houston families through programs focused on maternal and child health, nutrition, behavioral health, and assistance for families facing housing or financial challenges. Working with city departments and community partners, the division improves access to care, addresses health concerns, and strengthens family stability. Key initiatives include home visits for new mothers, enrollment assistance for WIC and SNAP, mental health screenings at clinics, and case management for families with complex needs. The team also works to enhance service delivery and uses data to guide decisions and track outcomes, ensuring that Houston families have the care and support they need to thrive.

The Division of Environmental Health and Public Health Science and Surveillance provides a wide variety of essential services and support activities that protect Houstonians and the environment in which they live. Daily activities conducted in the division include disease investigation, consumer protection, built environment, records management, laboratory testing, data interpretation, and pollution monitoring. Public Health Infrastructure Division
The Public Health Infrastructure (PHI) Division supports the Houston Health Department by strengthening the systems, services, and public health workforce. In collaboration with department leadership, PHI ensures effective operations through strategic planning, policy development, audits, and quality improvement. The division also oversees clinical governance, research integrity, health education, and community engagement, working together with programs to maintain high standards and deliver impactful public health services.
