A majority of Houston's public libraries will open on Saturday so people without air conditioning can take refuge from the heat. The YMCA of Greater Houston will also open its locations as cooling centers. 

Houstonians needing to take refuge from the heat over the weekend due to lack of air conditioning can visit City of Houston libraries on Saturday and two multi-service centers or a community center on Sunday.

The Houston Health Department encourages people to enjoy Pride Houston events and gatherings safely, including gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men due to their higher risk of mpox, formerly known as monkeypox.

Houston’s most popular baby names for 2022 are Liam, Noah and Mateo and Emma, Olivia and Camila, the Houston Health Department announced today.

Records maintained by the department’s Bureau of Vital Statistics show Liam as the top name for baby boys followed by Noah in second place, holding on to the same rankings since at least 2018. Mateo has taken the third spot since 2019.

The Houston Health Department urges people get vaccinated now against the flu to allow the vaccine’s full protection to take effect by the upcoming holidays.
