Mayor’s Office of New Americans informs and educates immigrants & refugees about the immigration laws of the United States, provides referrals and acts as liaison between immigrant communities and city government. They also offer access to immigration lawyers through their connections to other agencies. They collaborate with these agencies to host monthly immigration forums throughout the city. Baker Ripley Sheltering Arms Senior Program

To qualify for the senior program you must be 60 years of age or older. The program focuses on socialization activities for the participants, including arts & crafts, among others. There is an opportunity to volunteer for this program.

Functions as an one-stop shop to serve anyone needing assistance with completing applications for health service programs. Eligibility for Houston Health Department Health Centers can be determined on-site. Provides application completion for Harris County Financial Assistance Program, Texas Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Healthy Texas Women program.
Community Garden Program
Community Gardening & Harvesting The Houston Health Department provides a community garden where community members can serve as volunteers. You will learn how to keep yourself and your family active, all while maintaining a garden. The volunteers have the opportunity to take the harvest home with them free of charge.

Houston Food Bank’s Client Assistance Program (CAP) provides applica-tion assistance for social/health services. Application Assistance: Food Stamps (SNAP), TANF cash benefits, Children’s Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Women’s Health Program (family planning, health screenings thru Medicaid Program), CHIP Perinatal Pro-gram. They also offer linkage and referral services to other social service providers and other food bank program.
