Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Risk
Urgent Warning: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Risk
As Houston continues to recover from the recent storm and ongoing power outages, the Office of Emergency Management urges all residents to be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly.
Key Safety Tips:
- Do not use generators indoors. Only operate generators outside, at least 20 feet away from windows, doors, and vents.
- Avoid using charcoal grills or gas stoves for heating.
- Ensure your CO detectors are working. If you do not have a CO detector, consider getting one immediately.
- Seek fresh air immediately if you experience symptoms like headache, dizziness, or nausea, and call 911.
- Stay safe and vigilant. For more information, visit Houston Emergency Management Website.
