Gulf Coast collaborative group to present region's health insurance enrollment efforts

September 26, 2013

Leaders of the Gulf Coast Health Insurance Marketplace Collaborative, a group of local agencies helping area residents sign up for health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act will meet with Mayor Annise Parker, health care providers and representatives with Enroll America and the University of Texas-Health Science Center at Houston at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Houston Public Library, 500 McKinney.

Mayor Parker and leaders with the collaborative will unveil the local plans to help residents learn about the more than 40 insurance plans that will become available for the Gulf Coast area on October 1 and assist them in signing up for health care coverage.

The leaders will discuss the coordination of outreach efforts to the entire region, including the targeting of geographically and linguistically isolated people.  October 1 marks the start of the enrollment period and people will be able to compare plans and purchase the one that best suits their family.

Several families will learn about the insurance marketplace and how to enroll in coverage plans from navigators staffing an information booth with computers.
