HDHHS announces additional tetanus vaccination sites

June 12, 2001

The Houston Department of Health and Human Services has set up two additional tetanus vaccination sites.

A mobile unit will be set up Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Hunter Wood subdivision at the intersection of Barnesworth and Fox Hunter Streets (near Maxey road).

A second vaccination site will be set up at the Settegast Clinic, 9102 N. Wayside. Shots will be offered Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The four sites that began tetanus vaccination Tuesday are:

Mobile unit at Barnesworth and Fox Hunter Streets (2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m)

La Nueva Casa de Amigos Health Center, 1809 North Main Street, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Magnolia Health Center, 7037 Capitol, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Northside Health Clinic, 8523 Arkansas, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Sunnyside Health Center, 9314 Cullen Blvd., 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The department has advised that some residents exposed to flood waters may need a tetanus vaccination. People seven years of age and older with puncture wounds or cuts that were exposed to flood water or dirt may be at risk for contracting tetanus and will need a tetanus shot if they have not had one in the past five years.

Exposure to flood water without a wound or skin injury is not a risk for tetanus. Please consult your primary care physician for tetanus vaccine availability.

People with serious wounds will need special care and should consult their doctor.
