HDHHS to continue antibiotic distribution Wednesday

April 3, 2007

The Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS) will continue to provide preventive antibiotics against bacterial meningitis to Texas Southern University students on Wednesday.

HDHHS will provide the antibiotics at TSU’s Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

HDHHS screened more than 1,200 students and faculty Monday and Tuesday. By Tuesday afternoon, HDHHS had provided antibiotics to 531 people.

Two TSU students were diagnosed with meningitis last week. Meningitis is an infection of the covering of the brain and spinal cord.
