HDHHS health centers to host Family Health Evening

August 4, 2014

The Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS) will sponsor a Family Health Evening on Aug. 11 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in observance of National Health Center Week.

Four HDHHS health centers will offer free child immunizations, blood pressure screenings, child toothbrushes and toothpaste and presentations on a variety of health topics at the event. The presentations will offer participants tips on good oral health habits, preparing healthy meals, reading food labels and the importance of breastfeeding.

Health center employees will also staff several booths with information about many HDHHS services including family planning, the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program, Kids’ Village, men’s health and testing for sexually-transmitted diseases.

The four health centers and their addresses are La Nueva Casa de Amigos, 1809 North Main; Northside Health Center, 8504 Schuller; Sharpstown Health Services, 6201 Bonhomme and Sunnyside Health Center, 4605 Wilmington.

This year’s national theme for the event is “American’s Health Centers – Local Engines for Healthier Communities.” For more information, call 832-393-5427.
