HDHHS to host opening ceremony for diabetes center

Who:

The Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS) Mayor Annise Parker, three area residents diagnosed or at risk for diabetes and public health officials.

What:

HDHHS will host a ribbon cutting and open house celebration for its new Diabetes Awareness Wellness Network center. Three area residents already benefitting from the center's free fitness, nutrition and cooking classes will offer testimonials during the ceremony. Diabetes is the fifth leading cause of death in Harris County. Approximately 9 percent of adults in the Houston area have been told by a physician that they have diabetes. HDHHS will use the center’s wellness programming to help participants improve the way they manage their diabetes and their quality of life.
