The Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS) will introduce its newest facility to the community during a dedication ceremony for the Southwest Multi-Service Center on Monday, February 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Houston Mayor Bill White, Council Member M.J. Khan, Stephen L. Williams, HDHHS director, and community members will take part in the ceremony at the center, 6400 High Star.

The 25,000-square-foot, $4.1 million center already houses a WIC (Women, Infants and Children) clinic, Neighborhood Centers, Inc. and a satellite office of the Mayor’s Assistance Office, services that moved in January. Human service agencies providing programs and services out of the facility will move in later in the year. An e-library equipped with a computer lab will also be added.

Civic groups, community organizations and the public will be able to rent conference room space for meetings and events.

Event participants will have an opportunity to visit booths set up by WIC, Houston Public Library, Harris County Social Services, Houston Community College, Commissioner Steve Radack, Mayor’s Assistance Office and Neighborhood Centers.

The City of Houston’s Building Services Department worked with WHR Architects, Inc. and contractor Morganti Texas for construction of the center. Antonio Briones developed the civic art piece, colorful floor tile featuring a large sun at the center’s front entrance.
