The National Weather Service forecasts moderating temperatures for the Houston area beginning Wednesday, September 6. The City of Houston will deactivate the High Heat Emergency Plan on Thursday, September 7.

All municipal facilities such as libraries, multi-service centers and recreation centers will continue to be available for residents seeking shelter from the heat. Transportation to cooling centers will not be available beginning Thursday, September 7.

Houstonians should continue to exercise caution with the heat by drinking water and avoiding exertion during the hotter portions of the day. High risk people, children under five, adults over the age of 55 and people with chronic illness, should avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures.

The High Heat Emergency Plan will be reactivated should temperatures return to a heat index of 108 degrees or higher for two consecutive days.
