Riverside Health Center closed temporarily; services relocated to other health centers

April 1, 2002

The Houston Department of Health and Human Services closed Riverside Health Center on Monday to remove mold from sections of the building, repair the foundation and replace its leaking roof.

Riverside patients will receive preventive health services at other health centers and department offices while crews complete the work, expected to take several months.

Patients may call the department at 713-794-9365 to reschedule an upcoming appointment. People needing to schedule a new appointment also may call the same number.

Family planning, maternity, immunizations, tuberculosis and Hansen's disease services will be offered at Sunnyside Health Center, 9314 Cullen Blvd. Dental services will be offered at Northside Health Center, 8523 Arkansas, and the well-child clinic moves to Lyons Avenue Health Center, 5602 Lyons Ave. Services for sexually transmitted diseases will be offered at the Medical Center STD Clinic, 1115 S. Braeswood.

The Women, Infant and Child (WIC) program will offer services from its offices at 8000 N. Stadium Drive until clients can be reassigned to other community sites. WIC clients with appointments can call 713-794-9090.

Riverside staff will be reassigned to other health centers until the work is complete.
