STD awareness, free HIV tests for men part of Latino group’s Guy Talk event

June 6, 2014

Frank discussions with teenage boys and adult men about sexually transmitted diseases and free HIV tests are the focus of an awareness event the Latino HIV Task Force will sponsor as part of Men’s Health Week.

The task force expects to reach 100 teens and men through its Guy Talk – Entre Hombres event, set for Thursday, June 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Leonel Castillo Neighborhood Center, 2101 South Street.

Speakers at the event will offer participants information on how to reduce behaviors putting them at risk of infection and make responsible decisions about their health.

Men’s Health Week is June 9-15.

The task force is comprised of numerous health agencies and community-based organizations that administer HIV and AIDS prevention programs or medical treatment and various community organizations. HDHHS convened the task force in 2002 to help increase education and awareness of HIV, AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases among Hispanics.
