Summit targets black church leaders, youths

August 12, 2011

The Houston Black Religious Summit on Sexuality will provide information and resources to youths and black churches serving communities disproportionately impacted by teen pregnancy, unsafe sexual behavior, HIV and AIDS and other sexually-transmitted diseases.

The Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS), National Black Church Initiative and the Urban AIDS Ministry Task Force will sponsor the summit on Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Cullen Missionary Baptist Church, 13233 Cullen Blvd.

The summit’s workshops will help youths and young adults ages 12 to 21 successfully navigate the formative years. Adult workshops will equip clergy, youth ministers, parents and agency staff members with tools to help youths succeed.

Rev. Edwin Sanders II, senior servant of Metropolitan Interdenominational Church in Nashville, will deliver the keynote address.

Registration is $10 for youths and adults. For more registration information, call 281-216-5889 or 832-423-2627.
