The Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS) announces walk-in registrations at various WIC locations from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. on selected Saturdays during May, June, July and August 2000 for the Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC).

WIC is a nutrition education and food supplement program designed to provide nutrition counseling, immunizations, breastfeeding education and support, referrals to other programs and vouchers for healthy foods which are high in vitamins and minerals. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements based on monthly income.

You may be eligible for WIC even if you are working. WIC is also a supplemental food program for pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age five. Single fathers, grandparents and foster parents may be eligible for WIC services for their children.

To speed up the registration process, applicants should bring: all children from birth to five years old, identification, proof of address and income, and shot records for all children under age five.

Standards for participation in WIC are the same for everyone regardless of sex, age, handicap, race, creed, national origin or political beliefs.
