More than 40 businesses, hospitals and advocacy organizations have joined the Houston Health Department to kick off the Houston Boots Smoking campaign and raise awareness about the smoking cessation resources available to help Houstonians kick the cigarette habit.

Harris County and the City of Houston have earned the state’s top honors for making local changes to prevent and control heart disease, stroke and other chronic diseases.

The Houston Department of Health will mark National Health Center Week with a Family Health Evening on Aug. 10 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Harris County Healthcare Alliance, the City of Houston, Harris County, along with many partner organizations, will release the newly revised “State of Health Report 2015-2016” on February 18 at the Council for Drugs and Alcohol at 303 Jackson Hill Street in Houston at 1:30 p.m.

The Houston Health Department will extend weekday business hours at six of its multi-service centers the first two weeks in February, making it easier for uninsured people to get help signing up for a low-cost health plan by the Affordable Care Act’s nearing deadline.
