Workshops to help seniors, disabled community find local resources

December 30, 2010

Houston-area seniors and people with disabilities can learn about a wide range of local community resources at two upcoming “Get Ready for Life” workshops.

The workshops are scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on January 13 at the Metropolitan Multi-Service Center, 1475 West Gray, and January 29 in the auditorium at St. Dominic Village, 2401 Holcombe Blvd.

The Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS), Harris County Area Agency on Aging, the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and several other agencies will offer information about Social Security benefits, Medicaid and Medicare, legal counseling, health information and planning finances, housing and health.

The workshops are sponsored by the Care Connection Aging and Disability Resource Center, a program within HDHHS designed to raise awareness of the full range of aging and disability resources and support services in Houston and 13 adjacent Gulf Coast counties.

Event participants will receive refreshments and door prizes. For more information, contact Annette Offord at 832-393-5495 or annette.offord@houstontx.gov.
