Youth violence is a significant public health problem that affects thousands of young people each day, and in turn, their families, schools, and communities. Youth violence is widespread in the United States and is the third leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 10 and 24. Public health and violence prevention practitioners and researchers are united by a common goal: stop youth violence from happening in the first place.

    Houston National Violence Prevention Pledge

I, [YOUR NAME], do hereby proclaim my commitment to supporting the promotion of youth health, the provision of youth opportunity, and the prevention of youth violence in Houston. I pledge to do all I can to protect our young people from gun violence by encouraging and supporting solutions that create safer, healthier homes, schools, and communities.

I pledge to be supportive of the Sandy Hook Promise and its efforts to promote gun safety, mental health, and community connectedness. I recognize that a culture of peace and nonviolence can only be achieved through the collective efforts of all people and organizations.

We call on all to join us in this effort, by promoting youth health and wellness, providing opportunities for our young people to thrive, and working together to prevent youth violence. I promise to work together with all Houstonians to build a safer, healthier, and more peaceful city for our children and youth.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto made a solemn pledge!
